  • Could the "iWalk" be coming after all?

    Fabian Westerwelle
    01/06/02

By the time you read this you are probably either looking for last minute keynote news or already know what happed at it.
As for me, I still have no clue of what is going to be introduced tomorrow. One theory is the so called "iWalk". As all of you probably know by now SpyMac has released pictures and even a few high quality quicktime movies about Apple's so called iWalk. I haven't had the privilege of actually seeing the videos since they were taken down about day later (probably to make the rumor look more believable), but I never believed them to be real. SpyMac has always been a website that that posts true and false rumors, and I thought this one was a hoax.

ThinkSecret writes that iWalk was just what Apple wanted. Their "sources" reported that Apple employees were laughing and making fun about the apparently made up iWalk. They also learned, from other so called "sources", that there was never a legal request for the iWalk videos to be taken down.

After a little research though, I found that there is a big possibility for a kind of "iWalk" device and, as you all know, it would fit perfectly with the current digital hub theory. Apple has been working on Inkwell a kind of writing recognition similar to the one used in the old Newton. This was supposed to come out (according to ZDNET) together with MacOS X in early 2001, but it obviously never made it. Apple has also has also made special PDA like devices for Disney that were used to take surveys at Disney's California Adventure. This could all lead up to an "iWalk" device, even though it's probably not going to be called iWalk, at least I hope not.

iPod, with iTunes. iWalk, with something like iSync. Could it be?
I think it's coming, but probably not tomorrow. Tomorrow will bring something bigger and more unexpected. TechTV's ad for the expo says "....and a home entertainment product so special we can't tell you about it until Monday." Home entertainment product? That seems like it could be anything but a PDA, and it probably is.
Like our columnist Nick Canfield says: "Apple is very unpredictable, although we can guess and predict, in the end we will have to wait and see."
