If you choose a career that requires lots of Body Skill, be aware that this is the hardest career job since it drains lots of energy.
Job finding trick
If the career you want is not in the newspaper you want the first day you move in. Get a computer, a desk, and a chair. The computer gives you three career choices, so there is a bigger chance of you getting the one you want. Now sell your computer the day you bought it to get a full refund.
Getting your first promotion
Getting you first promotion is fairly easy except if your sim is in a bad mood. So always keep your sim in a good mood before going to work. (your sims can even get demoted if your sim is in a bad mood to often)
Taking a few days of
If your sim has reached a high career level, it is possible for your sim to take every other day off without being kicked out. On the days off you can work on your skills so you can get promoted.
Using your friends friends. Say what?
If you need friends so you can get promoted, it is easier for another sim living in the household to work on making friends while the other sim is at work. This works since all friends of your household count for any sim living in it.
Demotions
The only way you can get demoted is going to work in a bad mood to often. Loosing friends, missing work, or loosing skill is irrelevant.
Going to work "almost" late
Don't waste an hour by going to the carpool right when it arrives. The car will wait for an hour so don't rush. In that hour try to build you up your sims mood so they have a good day at work.
School trouble
If your sim kid missed a few days of school, let them study at home to get their grades up. (you don't want them to go to military school do you? by the way it costs $1000.). Even if you sim is doing descent in school let them study at home. That way it is easier to receive a A+ grade.
